Train: Linear Travel in a Non-Linear World, 2002

train

Train is an interactive artwork that examines the disparity between linear travel (of our physical bodies) and the way we interact with media, especially, the Internet (virtual bodies). The media that originated with the introduction of motion into visual culture, via the invention of the locomotive, now projects its own non-linear system on a traditionally linear form of transportation. The video composition of the work, forms a matrix of simultaneously looped sequences that can be accessed (on/off) in any order, but prevent the train in the video footage from traveling a decisive path from point A to point B.
