Syllable, 2002

Living in a time and culture where media is abundant and boundlessly dynamic, we are continually confronted with scattered fragments of information in the form of text, image and sound. To keep this endless stream of data from over-burdening our senses, we adapt to our environment and learn how to focus our attention, some times turning a "deaf ear" or "blind eye" to the conditions that envelop us in our daily lives.

Syllable is an experimental audio work about the fragments of sounds in our environment, particularly words, which may have been ignored, misunderstood or not heard at all. The composition does not focus on any one sound, but the culmination of multiple bits and pieces of words and their relationships to each other as they reconstruct themselves, some times mimicking language and at others, abstracting or mocking it.
